You can see a prominent square in Paris that is located in the first arrondissement. This square is called the Place Vendôme. This monument was created as memory of the glory of the armies of the Sun King, Louis XIV.
This wonderful square is situated to the north of the Tuileries Gardens. It is in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, France and it is situated east of the Église de la Madeleine.
The Rue de la Paix starts from here. The corners of the square have a rectangular Place Vendôme and are the usual architectural design of Jules Hardouin-Mansart. It is pedimented by canted screens too. The original Vendôme Column created and erected by Napoleon I is at the centre of the square. This was built to commemorate the battle of Austerlitz. However, it was eventually torn down on May 16, 1871. This was torn down by the decree of the Paris Commune but it was again subsequently re-constructed and it has remained a prominent feature.
