One of Paris’ most furtive gardens is the Promenade Plantee. It is a well guarded place to stroll, enjoy, and muse the blossom. It is really unbeatable with its planted flowers and narrow stretch of trees. It is built above-ground and it was once a railway track. There are a few lucky Parisians that have their own direct views of the garden from their apartments. They have themselves become a part of the view of the curious strollers.
The Promenade Plantee is also known as "La Coulée Verte" by locals. It stretches from Bastille through the place around Bercy and Gare de Lyon, if you go all the way to the west entrance of the Bois de Vincennes. The Promenade Plantée's cherry blossoms, long halls of bamboo, vibrant perennials and chestnut trees make for an amazing journey. You can come here to unwind and witness the side of Paris.
The only elevated park in the world is the La Promenade plantée. It can be located on top of an ancient viaduct that connects the Bastille Square with the Periphery Boulevard. The place is very nice and it is not that far to walk through the middle of the 12 arrondissement. The experience you will have here is certainly typical and as you walk on the approximately 9 meters high viaduct straight ahead. It is enclosed by several less and more exotic trees and plants and while you are doing this you are in the middle of the city. You will see all around the diverse architecture styles that are ever-changing and emerging all in one, somehow a surrealistic setting.
There is rather a place on the lower levels. It is a very rare privilege not to cycle “with the cars.” If you go down the street, the arcades will have about 50 crafts and arts ateliers. They are good and take pride in the arrondissement and they are really interesting to explore. The La Promenade plantée is not actually that crowded and it can have an intimate atmosphere there. The intervention of landscape and plant art was created by Mathieux and Vergely in the urban milieu. This park really deserves to be included in your vacation plan.
