Paris is a city that is famous for its architecture and its museums. Before going to a museum, it is good to appreciate the architecture of this fantastic city.
Palais de Chaillot accommodates the world’s largest centre of architecture, known as the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine. Although it was not a new concept in France, it took over twenty years to create the amalgamation that was the end result of this museum. Located in The Palais de Chaillot, also named Trocadero, it was opened in September of 2007 after more than ten years of development. One of the largest architectural museums in the world, it is a collaboration between the Museum of French Monuments and the French Institute of Architecture.
The history of French architecture goes from the 1100s to modern times in the museum of French Architecture, and the collections explore the city of architecture and heritage (The Cite de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine).
The representations of French architecture consist of plaster replication, reproductions of frescoes and paintings, and reconstructions and models that the museum exhibits. Almost everything in here is a reproduction, except for a few original documents. The three major galleries in permanent collection are:
• The Gallery of Wall Paintings and Window Panels
• The Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Architecture
• The Gallery of Moldings
